APIS FIGHTS DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE, SPONSORING ROSIE BATTY ROADSHOW BREAKFAST

Apis has come on board as a Territory Breakfast Sponsor for the Rosie Batty Roadshow Breakfast in Canberra, reflecting its commitment towards active community involvement.

Presented by ACT and Monaro Soroptimist International and Canberra Soroptimist International, the Rosie Batty Roadshow Breakfast is the first of its kind, highlighting issues surrounding the family law response to family violence in Australia and promoting the United Nations’ “Orange the World” and 16 days of Activism campaign to UNiTe to End Violence Against Women.

The breakfast is a small but significant step to ending the domestic and family violence epidemic once and for all, according to Apis partner, Nigel Nutt.

“Domestic and family violence in Australia is at breaking point, with one in six Australian women and one in 19 Australian men having experienced physical or sexual violence from a current or former partner since the age of 15,” Dr. Nutt said.

“From a professional standpoint, the costs and impacts of family violence on our industry are huge, causing social disengagement, decreased staff performance and productivity and increased staff turnover and absenteeism.

But more importantly, it’s an issue that impacts our local community, and we can’t just sit back and let it happen.”

Dr. Nutt says supporting the local community is fundamental to Apis’ business, and the organisation places emphasis on promoting and supporting events that give back to the community in which its staff live and work.

“At Apis we believe in cultivating the community around us and providing strong, positive influences for generations to come,” Dr. Nutt said.

“Sponsoring the Rosie Batty Roadshow Breakfast in Canberra is just one of many initiatives we participate in to ensurethat we are working towards a better community – one that is happier, safer, more productive and stable for all.”

The Rosie Batty Roadshow Breakfast aims to raise funds for the Women’s Legal Centre (ACT and Region) Inc., helping provide legal assistance to women in the ACT experiencing domestic and family violence.

During the breakfast, guests will hear from Former Australian of the Year and leading activist in the fight against domestic violence, Rosie Batty, who will talk about her own experiences, and practical approaches to family law reform.
