Nigel Nutt

Nigel is a partner of Apis and Principal Consultant. He joined the firm in 2002 and since then has led numerous consulting assignments for a wide range of government and private sector clients. He brings particular skills in the disciplines of project management, complex procurement and contract management, strategic consulting and analytical problem solving.

Nigel NuttIn the government sector, Nigel has led assignments for numerous departments including Health and Ageing, Therapeutic Goods Administration, Climate Change, Finance, Immigration, Customs, National Blood Authority, Office of Renewable Energy Regulator and Medicare Australia, among others. These have included short and long term assignments on high profile government initiatives. Nigel developed eWater’s project management methodology, and advised on the establishment of eWater’s performance measurement framework. He has advised Health and Ageing on project and program management for several high profile policy initiatives of national significance. He led business process reform activity for TGA in the regulation of medical devices and prescription medicines. He led major procurement for the Department of Climate Change in the development of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. His experience includes several years with AusAID from 2000 leading the procurement for complex international development projects worth in excess of $250M.

Nigel’s career started in the engineering profession. He has a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering from Sydney University and a doctorate from Oxford University specialising in geotechnics for offshore foundation design. In 1993 Nigel was awarded a post doctorate fellowship with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, and spent more than a year in Oslo researching and consulting for Norwegian oil and gas companies. He joined BHP in 1994, based in Western Australia. He was the Deputy Construction Superintendent on the Port Hedland Harbour Tunnel, Australia’s second undersea tunnel, and was a senior engineer on BHP’s $2.5B Hot Briquetted Iron Project (at the time, the largest construction project in Australia). He has worked on numerous large-scale projects for offshore installations, pipelines, infrastructure for heavy industry, tunnelling, mining, and materials handling applications.
