WHO WE ARE

ABOUT US

Serve, shape and solve

Apis specialises in the business of government. Our primary purpose is to assist public service leaders in the effective delivery of government business. But we pride ourselves on bringing a lot more to the relationship.

Through application of our considerable experience, expertise and strategic planning capabilities, we quickly distil practical insight and application, ensuring confidence in design, management, implementation and evaluation. We take a practical hands-on approach and collaborate with our clients to deliver agreed outcomes.

Our promise is to serve, shape and solve and we know our clients place a high worth on this pragmatic and effective approach. Together, in partnership with our clients; We Deliver. We are most proud of that.

WHY WE ARE BETTER VALUE

All our assignments involve knowledge transfer and capability improvement features. These are built in as part of our value-add. There are many ways this can be achieved, and Apis has experience across all of the following knowledge transfer strategies:

  • Sit-beside consulting
Involving pairing of an Apis consultant with a departmental counterpart. This approach is highly personalised to the needs of the individual, offering maximum empowerment while mitigating risks in decision making.
  • Team integration
Where the right skill set is matched to the right role, from across the total talent pool available (your staff and ours). This approach plays to the strengths of your staff, while enabling you to draw on complementary skills and expertise from the Apis team.
  • Operational transition
On larger assignments, we are often engaged in ongoing operational management. This allows us to work with you in the development of ongoing operational materials and manuals, track operational performance and work collegiately on continuous improvement.
  • Targeted handover
Skills transfer typically accelerates towards project completion, and with this in mind, we focus heavily on the development of supporting materials to assist handover, extraneous to the core deliverables. This may include quick reference guides, “how to” manuals, and other materials designed to smooth transition activity, usually developed on site, with close involvement from staff inheriting the work.

We work from a deep understanding of government service delivery. You can rely on our proven delivery methodologies that encompass the following principles:

  • Relationship based
Success at Apis is founded on the strength of our relationships and the reputation this fosters. Our clients value the ready access and personalised input they receive from our team members.
  • Hands on leadership
Our leadership model is based on the Partners and owners of the business being in delivery roles for our clients. The Apis Partners continue to take a hands on leadership role for clients, working on site as part of blended teams to ensure we deliver targeted outcomes.
  • A fit-for-purpose approach
We recognise the day to day pressures facing the Public Service. Limited executive access does not prevent us from progressing your work. Our staff are selected, in part, on their maturity and “can-do” work ethic and ability to adapt in complex, rapidly changing environments. We do not believe in a ‘one size fits all approach’. The tools, techniques and methodologies our people use are built on best practice and tailored to fit your needs.

We understand how important it is to provide assurance over the delivery of outcomes. The pillars of our approach include:

  • Ownership
The delivery manager is a Partner and owner of Apis. He stays on the journey across the full life cycle and is accountable for the quality of all Apis work.
  • Regular feedback loops
We establish and manage informal and formal meetings and dialogue with you at multiple levels within the organisation. These meetings help to track and manage progress, provide a forum for receiving direction, and equally for offering solutions and ideas.
  • Regular status reporting
You look to understand the status and progress of our work in term of tasks complete, tasks in progress, tracking against schedule, tracking against budget, risks and issues. Our reporting style is simple, dashboard style, graphically presented and designed for rapid review.
  • We learn from each other and from you
We run regular networking sessions within Apis designed to promulgate learnings across Departmental sites. Client staff frequently benefit from this approach.
  • Tailored Tools and Methodologies
Our offering is deeper than the skills of our individual consultants. Blended teams have access to a wide range of methodologies, tools and techniques which we readily adapt to your needs. These span disciplines across portfolio, program and project management, change management, business process mapping, benefits analysis and communication.

The ‘proof is in the pudding’ as they say and the best feedback we can receive from our clients is that we listen, we adapt, we exceed expectations and ultimately - we get the job done! We have been fortunate enough to receive such feedback and we believe it is this drive to exceed that sets us apart.

The delivery of services to government is core business for us. More than 95% of our work over the past 14 years has been with federal government departments. We have been appointed to more than 50 panels, representing over 58 departments and statutory agencies. We have a significant track record spanning numerous sectors, including health, ageing, human services, environment, agriculture, education, immigration and border protection, finance and indigenous affairs.

We are a flat structured, collegiate firm of professionals motivated by solving interesting and challenging problems, having fun and working hard. We are well versed in managing the delivery of programs characterised by complexity, including challenges around policy and legislation, organisational change management and stakeholder expectations. We are experienced in the delivery of enabling technologies and work hard to articulate the business design and support technology providers in the delivery process. We are adept at designing and implementing tailored governance and reporting frameworks, targeted at providing timely and accurate information as the basis for effective decision making.

At any one time, we run active assignments across multiple government departments, working as part of blended teams, alongside you and your providers. Together, in partnership with you; We Deliver. We are most proud of that.

We are in it with you – in house and hands on. The majority of our work is delivered on site, working alongside your staff, usually in formal or informal blended team structures.

This approach brings the following distinct advantages:

  • Flexibility and control for you to direct the team in the way that best meets your program or project objectives.
  • Accessibility to skills and expertise of our consultants.
  • Maximum opportunity for genuine knowledge transfer to your staff.
  • Surge capacity to manage the peaks and troughs of the work profile.
  • Buy-in from the Apis team with a real and reputational interest to deliver outcomes for you.
  • A single point of accountability in the nominated Apis lead.

We understand how important it is to be accessible when and where you need us. To that end, in the past few years we’ve invested heavily in our people and building robust processes. We recognise clients as our life blood so making our people readily accessible to you is a key priority. Experience has taught us to ‘expect the unexpected’ and we have built a reputation for being there when it matters.

Our office is located in Yarralumla which means we are highly accessible to our Canberra based market, and readily able to deliver services on their behalf throughout Australia.

The majority of our business is repeat business or referral based. Our referees attest to our corporate culture and regularly comment on our relationship focussed management style and approach.
